In addition to print materials, American Councils has pioneered the devlopment of online educational materials, combining high quality, authentic content with state-of-the-art learning methods and technologies.
American Councils created Russnet ( www.russnet.org ), vast online Russian language learning and teaching network containing a wealth of Russian language resources. RussNet offers user-friendly language modules for use in the classroom or independently. The RussNet Virtual Classroom enables teachers to maintain dedicated classroom space and to make assignments for use in conjunction with the modules. If modules are studied independently, students can still track their progress with RussNet's scoring mechanism.
Russnet includes Language Modules that include online written and aural exercises are available on the intermediate and advanced level in “Business Russian” and “A Cultural Map of Russia,” and there are a series of beginning level modules on a variety of historical, literary, and cultural topics (e.g. Christianization of Rus', After the Revolution, Glasnost and Perestroika, Fedor Dostoevsky, Anna Akhmatova, Moscow, Skazki, etc.).
