Overview

American Councils is the leading U.S. organization for study abroad and language learning in Russian and the languages of the former Soviet Union . American Councils' Russian Language and Area Studies Program, for example, has provided advanced training for more than 6,000 U.S. graduate/undergraduate students in Russian language, politics, and culture since 1976.

Most recently, American Councils has developed the Russian Flagship Program under the auspices of the National Security Education Program (NSEP)/National Flagship Language Initiative (NFLI) to address the critical need for U.S. professionals able to speak, read, understand, and write Russian at the highest levels of functional proficiency.
