FLEX Youth in Georgia Mobilize for World No Tobacco Day 31/05/07


31 May was the annual World Health Organization’s (WHO) World No Tobacco Day. This year’s emphasis was on smoke-free public places.  A group of more than twenty alumni from American Councils’ FLEX program, and students of art schools and other university, together with the Georgian NGO, Framework Convention Alliance (FCA) mobilized residents of Tbilisi and promoted public awareness for the rights of non-smokers.

 A group of more than twenty alumni from American Councils’ FLEX program, and students of art schools and other university, together with the Georgian NGO, Framework Convention Alliance (FCA) mobilized residents of Tbilisi and promoted public awareness for the rights of non-smokers. Current legislation in Georgia prohibits smoking in universities, schools, hospitals and health institutions, public transport, cafes not serving hard alcohol, as well as all public places such as the airport, government buildings, cinemas and theatres. An individual can be fined $3 for each cigarette and the administration $120.

   
Clothe Drive at Nutsubidze Infant House 13/05/07


On May 13th 2007 over 30 Flex Alumni visited Nutsubidze infant house and brought clothes for local homeless kids. Activity was full of interesting interaction and entertaining games with residents of local infant house.

   
Clothe Drive in Kaspi Rehabilitation Center 06/05/07


On May 6, 2007 Georgian FLEX alumni visited mentally disabled youth located in Kaspi Rehabilitation Centre. Kaspi Centre has 40 residents of ages 4-18. All of them are mentally disabled and some of them are physically disabled too. Alumni brought clothes and food for them, played with the Rehabilitation Centre residents.
